Prof. Dr. Nachol Chaiyaratana is currently a professor of electrical engineering with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok, Thailand. He is also an adjunct staff with the Division of Molecular Genetics, Department of Research and Development, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, Thailand. His research interests include bioinformatics, evolutionary computation, and machine learning. His works on genome-wide association studies led to the identification of genetic markers in PARK2 (parkin RBR E3 ubiquitin protein ligase) that are associated with type 2 diabetes mellitus in the UK population. It was recently confirmed that Parkin plays a role in providing an alternative explanation for the etiology of type 2 diabetes mellitus.
